Founded in 1972 by Don Guthrie Sr., Guthrie & Associates is Fort Dodge's oldest and most trusted real estate firm. Today, under the leadership of Scott and Katie Underberg, we continue a 54-year legacy of honest, experienced, and community-focused real estate service.
Our Story
Guthrie & Associates Real Estate was launched by Don Guthrie Sr. in 1972, making it Fort Dodge's oldest full-service real estate firm. For over four decades, the Guthrie family built a reputation for integrity, expertise, and deep community roots — becoming the firm that Fort Dodge residents called first for any real estate question.
Scott Underberg joined the Guthrie team in 2004 and quickly distinguished himself as one of the area's top producers. His wife Katie earned her license in 2013. On January 1, 2015, Scott and Katie purchased the firm from Don Guthrie Jr. and Dwight Guthrie — beginning a new chapter while honoring the legacy that came before.
Under the Underbergs, the firm has grown dramatically. By 2017, production had tripled compared to the year before they took over. In November 2016, they purchased and completely renovated a new 2,800 sq ft office at 1302 Central Ave. — twice the size of the previous location. They also launched Cornerstone Property Management to serve Fort Dodge property owners and tenants.
Today, Guthrie & Associates is a true family business. Scott and Katie's daughters — Alivia (Liv) Underberg and Kayla Crawford — are both licensed agents with the firm, carrying the family's commitment to honest, experienced real estate service into the next generation.
Beyond real estate, Scott and Katie are deeply invested in Fort Dodge's future. As leaders of The Better Way Project, they have purchased the historic Carver Building and other downtown properties to help revitalize Fort Dodge's central business district — putting local money and local expertise to work for the community they love.

Scott Underberg joins Guthrie & Associates as a licensed agent, beginning his journey with the firm.
Katie Underberg Licensed
Katie Segar Underberg earns her real estate license and joins the Guthrie & Associates sales team.
New Ownership — New Era
Scott and Katie Underberg purchase Guthrie & Associates. The experienced team, including the Guthrie brothers, remains in place.
Property Management Launched
Connections Property Management Group (now Cornerstone PMG) launched to serve Fort Dodge property owners and tenants.
New Office at 1302 Central Ave.
Guthrie & Associates moves to a newly purchased and fully renovated 2,800 sq ft office — twice the size of the previous location.
Triple Production Growth
Under the Underbergs, the firm triples its production vs. the year before they took over. 11+ licensed agents on staff.
The Better Way Project
Scott and Katie Underberg co-found The Better Way Project, purchasing the historic Carver Building to revitalize downtown Fort Dodge.

Scott has been part of the Guthrie & Associates family since 2004 and became co-owner in January 2015 alongside his wife Katie. A St. Edmond High School graduate (Class of 1998) and lifelong Fort Dodge resident, Scott brings over 22 years of real estate expertise to every client relationship. The Guthrie & Associates team has closed 534+ transactions and served 455+ listings through Navica MLS, totaling over $58.7M in sales volume. He specializes in residential sales, commercial investment, and real estate consulting across Fort Dodge and all of Iowa.

Katie Segar Underberg is a Fort Dodge Senior High graduate (Class of 2001) and Buena Vista University alumna (B.S. 2009). She earned her real estate license in 2013 and joined Scott at Guthrie & Associates. As co-owner, Katie handles residential transactions and oversees daily operations of Cornerstone Property Management. She holds the ePro certification and is known for her deep knowledge of Fort Dodge neighborhoods.
